The new AG City summer festival, which will be celebrated for ten days from 5 – 14 August 2011 at Breitscheidplatz, is a highlight of the Ku’damm’s anniversary year. The Kurfürstendamm is inviting all of its partner boulevards from the Association of World-Famous Commercial Streets to participate in the festival.
This association was founded on 13 September 2010, during the First Beijing Wangfujing International Brand Festival. Members include Fifth Avenue and Times Square in New York; Orchard Road in Singapore; the Avenue des Champs-Élysées in Paris; Oxford Street, Regent Street and Bond Street in London; Rue Sainte-Catherine in Montreal; the Kurfürstendamm in Berlin and Wangfujing Street in Beijing.
Fifteen boulevards from ten countries discussed the design and development of major streets and signed a joint declaration of intent with the aim of promoting cooperation and communication at the international level.
The “Summer in the City” motto serves to present the partner boulevards to Berlin locals and the many visitors to the German capital in a sophisticated way.
The festival will not only allow visitors to experience the summer in Berlin, but at the same time will also give them the chance to enjoy a short stroll through Paris, Moscow, London, Montreal, New York, Singapore and Tokyo. The art and architecture, restaurants and cafés, shopping temples and parks of these distant boulevards can be admired and experienced at Breitscheidplatz.
Culinary specialities from the various countries can be enjoyed in an atmosphere typical of the individual glamorous boulevards. The programme will include days showcasing the various boulevards with cultural entertainment from the featured countries.
